"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission”
(CCC 1213).

“Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments” (cf. CCC 1213–1216). Through it we receive sanctifying grace, are configured to Christ, and Baptism imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual mark (character) (cf. CCC 1262–1270). Instituted by Jesus Christ, it is necessary for salvation for those to whom the Gospel has been proclaimed, and it is ordinarily conferred by water and the invocation of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

INFORMACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL
“El Bautismo es el fundamento de toda la vida cristiana, el pórtico de la vida en el Espíritu y la puerta que abre el acceso a los otros sacramentos. Por el Bautismo somos liberados del pecado y regenerados como hijos de Dios, llegamos a ser miembros de Cristo y somos incorporados a la Iglesia y hechos partícipes de su misión” (CIC 1213). “El santo Bautismo es el fundamento de toda la vida cristiana, el pórtico de la vida en el Espíritu (vitae spiritualis ianua) y la puerta que abre el acceso a los otros sacramentos” (cf. CIC 1213–1216). Por él recibimos la gracia santificante, somos configurados con Cristo y el Bautismo imprime en el alma un carácter espiritual indeleble (cf. CIC 1262–1270). Instituido por Jesucristo, es necesario para la salvación para aquellos a quienes les ha sido anunciado el Evangelio, y se confiere ordinariamente por el agua y la invocación de la Santísima Trinidad: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.
