Latin: Father John Antony

Spanish: Mrs. Veronica Farfan

Latin

"Julius Caesar famously said, "Veni, Vidi, Vici" (I came, I saw, I conquered) upon his return from defeating Pharnaces II of Pontus.  St. Joseph Catholic School students learn Latin not to brag about conquering their enemies, but rather to conquer themselves through self-discipline, serious study and sensitivity to the classics.

Contrary to popular opinion, Latin is no "dead language," it surrounds us on our monuments, seeps into our movies and modes of speech, and stands at the root of over half of the English vocabulary.  Latin helps create not only a well-rounded curriculum, but also well-grounded students."

Latin is currently offered to students in grades six and seven.

Spanish

Spanish at St. Joseph Catholic School is offered to students in PreK3 through seventh grade.  The goal of the Spanish program is for students to "learn to learn" a second language, and to expose them to cultural differences as well as to learn the history of Spanish speaking individuals throughout the world.  With the large Hispanic population in Northwest Arkansas, the exposure students receive will help with communication with one another.  Just as important, though, it will help students and families appreciate that our God made us one family who speaks many languages.
