SOCIAL JUSTICE

Purpose: To inform and involve the parish community in social concerns and charitable acts toward one another and toward the larger community of city, state, nation and world. To transform into action the Church’s concern about social justice and charity towards all.

 

Children’s House
Betty Solis
Financial assistance for a therapeutic day care program for children 18 months to 6 years old who have been victims of physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect.

 

Cooperative Emergency Outreach (CEO)
Genie Donovan/Julie Thoma
An organization founded by a group of area churches to meet the emergency needs of the community. Volunteers help with interviewing, data collection and input, and the pantry.

 

Habitat for Humanity
Marla Walker
A national organization which builds houses for families who qualify. HFH then sells the house to the family at affordable rates. Volunteers help by working on the houses, feeding volunteers on the job site and helping with fundraising.

 

Faith in Action
Ann Marie Candido
Trained volunteers whose goals are to assist those not served by other agencies to remain in their home by providing necessary services. Services could include transportation to Doctor appointments, trips to the grocery store, home visits.

 

Meals on Wheels
Terri Pesnell
Organized through the Council On Aging, members deliver meals for the elderly and homebound. Volunteers drive and deliver (no food preparations) meals once a month on Mondays from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

 

Respect Life
Kathy Matthews
Organization that promotes the respect for all life. Volunteers pray, provide information, and assist with the annual conference. Meets on the 3rd Tuesdays of the month at St. Raphael’s ( Springdale) Parish Hall.

 

Prison Ministry
A ministry to the City and County prison, still in developmental stages.

 

Single Parent Scholarship Fund
Financial assistance of $500 per semester given to single parents for a competitive scholarship program through Washington County.

 

Salvation Army
Steven Worden
Local shelter for the homeless, crisis aid assistance and addiction rehabilitation program.

 

Seven Hills
Margot Martin
Daytime shelter for homeless families. Offers phone, food and other opportunities.

 

Catholic Relief Services
Organizes annual fundraising for Rice Bowl (Lent) & Work of Human Hands Crafts Fair (Advent).

 

Compassion Ministries
Kathy Matthews
Financial assistance to local shelter to help single pregnant women (often teenagers).

 

Catholic Charities & Immigration Services NWA
Frank Head
Diocesan satellite office in Springdale assisting with immigration and legal issues.

 

Mission Honduras
Celestine Eichler
Fr. Emil Cook’s mission in Honduras for the underprivileged, orphaned, uneducated and elderly. Coordinates fundraising and parish visits.

 

Free Clinic of NWA
Margot Martin
Provides medical aid and services to NWA families without medical insurance who qualify.
